How a passage is chosen

Answering what someone writes has two separate jobs inside it, and this product gives them deliberately to two different things. Deciding where to look is a judgement about sense and feeling, and a model is genuinely good at that. Producing the words themselves is a claim about what a text actually says, and a model must never be trusted with it.

So the model returns addresses and nothing else: a book, a chapter and a verse, or a numbered saying. Our own code then fetches those exact words from a real edition. If you are reading a passage here, no machine composed it.

Your words are checked first for signs that you may be in danger. That check runs on your own device before anything is sent, and again on our side afterwards. It is a fixed list of phrases rather than a model, so it cannot fail quietly, and what it finds is never logged, counted or kept.

What you wrote is then sent to the model once, along with the kind of writing you chose and the canon you picked. It comes back with several possible references rather than a single one, which is what makes an unusable answer survivable instead of an empty screen.

Each reference is resolved against the edition that serves that canon in your language. Anything that cannot be resolved is dropped and counted. Nothing is written to take its place, and a gap is never quietly filled.

What reaches you is drawn from everything that resolved, not simply taken from the top of the list. Two people who write the same sentence are not handed the same verse, and someone coming back on a harder day is not handed a repeat.

The draw is weighted rather than random, because the model returns its candidates in an order it prefers and that order still means something. What the draw cannot do is affect whether a passage is genuine. Everything it chooses between already came back from a real edition, so it decides which true passage you see and never whether it is one.

We will not write scripture. Where a canon has no verified edition in the language you are reading, it is not offered, and its page says so plainly rather than filling the space with something composed for the occasion.

We will not explain the passage to you. There is no reading of it, no application, no lesson drawn out. You are given the words and then left alone with them, which is the entire point.

Every passage arrives naming the edition it came from, the translator where one is named, and the licence it is published under. That is not decoration. It is what lets you go and read the same words somewhere that is not us.
