What it is
The Tanakh is one collection read in three parts, the Torah, the Prophets and the Writings, and its name is an acronym of those three. The consonantal text was transmitted with great care by generations of scribes, and the arrangement of its books differs from the order the same writings take in a Christian Bible.
Its range is wide: legal codes and genealogy, the arguments of the prophets, the love poetry of the Song of Songs, the protest of Job, and the Psalms, which have served as a prayer book in Jewish and Christian worship alike. It is offered here as scripture in its own right, not as a first half.
